Affordable ADUs for the Community

Casitas, in partnership with Develop with Skill and Design with Skill, serves as the City’s consultant on the Backyard Builders Program, a pilot initiative to support Long Beach homeowners in creating new affordable Accessory Dwelling Units. The program provides up to 10 eligible property owners with zero-interest loans and comprehensive assistance to design, permit, and build ADUs, expanding Long Beach’s affordable rental housing stock.

Casitas guides participants through every stage—from early design and permitting through construction coordination—working closely with city staff and program consultants to streamline approvals and delivery. Our team supports design management, entitlements, consultant coordination, and construction oversight to help homeowners successfully realize their ADU projects under this innovative model.

By participating in the Backyard Builders Program, property owners generate additional rental income while contributing much-needed affordable housing within existing neighborhoods, reinforcing Long Beach’s commitment to community-driven solutions for housing shortages
